Product storage in the mixing plant
Concrete is an essential material for building houses, bridges and tunnels as well as for the production of slabs. Job sites are supplied via stationary or mobile mixing equipment. All materials needed for the production of concrete are temporarily stored in large silos or bunkers. Extremely abrasive materials, changing fillers, as well as cement, which generates a lot of dust, all place different demands on level measurement.

VEGAPULS 68 for level measurement in the clinker silo
Because of the extremely abrasive properties of clinker and temperatures up to 200°C (392°F) in the silo, contacting measurement technology is categorically ruled out. Being specially developed for bulk solids, VEGAPULS 68 combines simple installation and commissioning with the advantages of the wear-free, non-contacting radar measuring principle. The implemented parabolic antenna provides strong microwave focusing, which in turn yields a strong wanted signal. Interference from struts or installations is practically excluded.

VEGACAP 65 as overfill protection
Ruggedness is of utmost importance in the clinker silo. That is why capacitive measurement lends itself well to this application. VEGACAP 65 is characterised by a stable, wearresistant mechanical construction and an easy set-up procedure. Neither condensate nor build-up can impair its reliability as overfill protection.

VEGAPULS 68 for level measurement in the cement silo
The extreme generation of dust during filling and emptying limits the implementation of non-contacting measurement with ultrasonic methods. VEGAPULS 68 can remedy this problem, because microwaves are completely unaffected by dust generation or a strong filling stream. With a measuring range of up to 70 m (230 ft), VEGAPULS 68 is the ideal measuring instrument for this application.

Level measurement with VEGAFLEX 62
The medium-contacting sensor VEGAFLEX 62 works reliably and trouble-free in cement silos up to 40 m (130 ft) high. Because the sensor comes already calibrated to the probe length, adjustment on site is not necessary. Set-up thus involves only electrical connection of the two-wire sensor. Product changes, such as e.g. an admixture of iron oxide, have just as little effect on the measuring results as varying product quality does.

Overfill protection with VEGAVIB 66
The vibrating level switch VEGAVIB 66 lends itself well as overfill protection for cement silos. It requires no adjustment whatsoever and provides reliable switching with varying product quality in the silo. For the user this means: “plug and play”. Since VEGAVIB 66 has practically no moving parts, it is not subject to wear and is maintenance-free throughout its entire life cycle.
