Service tanks on board of navy and research vessels
To extend the duration of stay at sea, every cubic centimeter of space on navy and research vessels is exploited. Existing cavities or inaccessible places on the ship are used as additional tanks for drinking water, diesel or aviation fuel. The tank shape and dimensions are completely different from familiar standard tanks and, depending on the type of ship and size, can extend over several decks. The tank content can be anywhere from one to one hundred tons.
Level measurement with VEGAPULS 66
A sounding pipe provided by the shipyard is sufficient for a reliable and precise level measurement in the tank. The noncontact radar measurement with VEGAPULS 66 is the best solution, irrespective of tank form or product. The microwaves are guided through the tube and are unaffected by vessel installations and throats. Due to the operating frequency, the system is insensitive to butt and welded seams and makes the use of available 2" tubes possible.
Special solutions with VEGAPULS 66
The VEGAPULS 54 radar sensor is used for special applications on ships in the US Navy. Existing hand sounding pipes are used for measuring the levels. The radar sensor couples its signal directly into the sounding pipe and makes the classic radar antenna unnecessary. VEGAPULS 66 can be swivelled from the sounding pipe by means of a special holder if a manual sounding is necessary.
