In November 2004, there was good reason to celebrate at VEGA Grieshaber KG: the company produced its 100,000th radar measuring instrument. This special instrument was delivered in Belgium to a company belonging to the HOLCIM Group of Switzerland. HOLCIM is a world leading manufacturer of cement, concrete and other building materials. HOLCIM has already implemented a number of VEGA radar sensors. According to HOLCIM’s central engineering staff, the most decisive factors for using VEGA radar sensors are: reliable measurement as well as simple mounting and setup. Due to their freedom from maintenance, low cost of ownership and reasonable price, the instruments also meet the requirements of the central purchasing department. Radar Instrument No. 100,000 is a VEGAPULS 68. Through new, high performance antenna systems and further development of the signal processing software ECHOFOX, this instrument version is optimised for the measurement of bulk solids. The implementation of state-of-the-art microwave components increases the sensitivity of the sensor a thousand fold. This assures reliable measuring results even in applications with extremely difficult ambient conditions. VEGA Grieshaber is a world-leading expert in level, pressure and switching instrumentation. In 1997 VEGA introduced the world’s first two-wire radar sensor. Just one year later, VEGA advanced to international market leader in the area of radar sensors - and holds that position until this day. No other company in the world sells more radar sensors year after year. VEGA was founded in 1959 in the Black Forest and now employs 850 people worldwide (440 at the headquarters in Schiltach).
