Storage of coarse bulk materials
Gravel and grit are required as substratum for road construction and as an admixture in concrete. These materials are stored in large, usually concrete-lined, silos and bunkers. The implemented level measurement technology must meet very tough demands.

VEGAPULS 68 for level measurement in gravel and grit silos
Due to the high tractive forces and abrasion, level measurement techniques that contact the medium are unsuitable for this job. The non-contacting radar sensor VEGAPULS 68, specially developed for such applications, provides an elegant solution here. Unperturbed by dust, abrasion, condensate, product moisture and filling noise, the instrument carries out measurement reliably in silos or bunkers up to 70 m (230 ft) high. The parabolic antenna, which is especially advantageous for this application, assures strong microwave focusing and a strong wanted signal. Struts or other obstacles do not cause interfering signals.

The non-contacting ultrasonic sensor VEGASON 65 is a very cost-effective alternative for this application. With a measuring range up to 25 m (82 ft), it is the ideal solution for silos with low dust generation and noise. VEGASON 65 is also quite suitable for contactless measurement of material heaps.
