Last weekend the 40 VEGA trainees, graduates and attendants were completely caught up in an atmosphere of team spirit. A 3-day excursion served to integrate the 10 new trainees into professional life.

The first destination of the trip was the engine and turbine manufacturer MTU in Friedrichshafen. During a guided tour of the plant, the trainees of VEGA Grieshaber KG were able to gain insight into the world of engine making and experience the dimensions of a ship engine up close.

In Altusried in the Allgäu region, the trainees tested and broadened their knowledge of the South German federal state in a competition at the “bayerischer Abend” (Bavarian evening) on Friday. The typically Bavarian “Kräftemessen” (test of strength) and the awarding of prizes for the best Bavarian clothes made for a cheerful atmosphere.

The next day the trainees could compete in different disciplines at an Olympics of a special kind. Four groups got a number of tasks in which confidence and team spirit were much in demand. One task, for example, was to build within 30 minutes a tower which is higher, more beautiful and stabler than the towers of the other groups, using only simple materials like cardboard, paper and glue. Success depended on good coordination of the team members as they turned a trainee belonging to their team into a paper mummy within a very short time. Speed and skill were also critical factors in both the egg walk and the diver fin race.

On the return trip to Schiltach, all trainees and attendants agreed that this excursion was a terrific experience.
