Reliable level measurement in cement factories has for a longtime been a challenge for measurement techniques. Extremedust formation when filling closed silos, high bulk densities and, in part, high temperatures make high demands on the measuring principle used. After a fairly long test period, Holcim(Switzerland) AG made the decision to use radar engineering for the level measurement at their Siggenthal cement works. This contactless measurement technique has proved to befavourable in particular for the rough process conditions of cement making.
