Level Switches – Smart Components for Process Automation |

Level switches are an important supplement to continuous level measurement. They work as an independent measurement, as additional monitoring of critical measuring points or as a component for achieving functional safety according to SIL. The main fields of application are overflow protection and min/max control in vessels as well as dry run protection of pumps. The special characteristic of these devices is the incorruptible, exactly reproducible switching point. This article shows selected measuring techniques and their functional principles, selection criteria as well as typical applications in the paper industry.
