With 80 GHz into the far north

On May 29th our 80-GHz tour took me to the far north - to Sweden and Finland. I arrived in Gothenburg at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. My Swedish colleague Martin was already waiting for me at the airport.
We drove straight to the hotel to set up everything there. Since Martin, as a product manager for VEGA products, would like to conduct more seminars, we took our time getting the equipment ready and went through everything together: sound check, tests, etc.
When we finished, we felt we had earned a good meal. Fortunately, I didn’t have to try the Swedish specialty, surströmming (fermented fish). It's a type of herring that is pickled in brine and allowed to ferment in the can. Opening the can is a science in itself because the liquid smells insanely bad. That probably would have ruined the seminar the next day.
After a relaxing night at the hotel, we started the seminar the next morning with 80 participants. Interestingly, everyone shows up in Sweden, and shows up on time! Even better than in Germany ;-).  That was really impressive. We were able to start punctually at 8:30 a.m.
The participants were especially enthusiastic about the possibilities 80 GHz offers. They asked many questions, mainly during the break and lunch.

After the seminar, everything was quickly dismantled and packed. We then drove from Gothenburg to Stockholm by car, a trip of about 5 hours – straight across Sweden, from west to east.
Unfortunately, we arrived exactly at rush hour. I had the impression that all 10 million Swedes were traveling around Stockholm. The hotel was right in the centre of town near a convention centre and our room on the "yellow" 2nd floor. We almost felt like home ;-)
On Wednesday we had a smaller group with 40 participants. Again, everyone was in the seminar room at exactly 8:30 – despite rush hour. Remarkable! Due to the group being smaller, considerably more questions were asked during the seminar. The presentation was a lively exchange ... at the end, one of the participants even placed an immediate order for a VEGAPULS 64. What a great experience for a product manager like me!

That evening we travelled on to Finland, arriving in Helsinki around 7 p.m. From there it took us an hour to drive north to Lathi.
No, unfortunately not for ski jumping, but "only" for the 80-GHz highlight ...
In Finland, the seminar was planned for the afternoon, so we started the event with lunch. During the morning hours we had time to set up and prepare everything. After the seminar and some good discussions with the participants, we went back to Helsinki. As there was no flight to Frankfurt in the evening, I spent the last night in a hotel near the airport.
In June the sun doesn’t go down until 10 p.m. in Helsinki – so there was still plenty of time to have a quick look at the city. I took the train from the airport to the city centre and was in Helsinki at around 8 p.m. Unfortunately it was rather chilly – only 7° C – but I was still able to enjoy the city in the light of the evening sun.
The next morning at 7 a.m. I flew back to Frankfurt. The warm, long Pentecost weekend was perfect for relaxing after an exciting seminar week.
