Around the World with 80 GHz – "We Love Radar" Encore in China

The shipbuilding industry today is facing major challenges. As a result of overcapacities in previous years, charter rates are falling. However, the trend for technical modernisation, new emissions and ballast water regulations, as well as escalating fuel costs, are actually helping to still keep the order books full for suppliers to the sector. Asia's most important marine exhibition is Marintec in Shanghai, it's at the centre of these developments and this means it remains a 'must-attend' event for VEGA and their innovative, 80 GHz radar technology. In response to the increasing demands for greater efficiency and accuracy, this level solution provides the right answers – for cargo ships, cruise liners and yachts alike.

Encore!

So, VEGA product manager Clemens Hengstler’s planned visit to this trade fair actually turned into something bigger, an extra round of the training campaign "Around the World with 80 GHz". Although the tour officially ended last November with an event in Poland, the VEGA radar team could hardly refuse when the Chinese colleagues asked for an encore.
So, Hengstler quickly extended his visit to Marintec to include some additional travel destinations such as Yungang, Xushou and Nanjing; as a result, his luggage was also got extended – by several kilos of demo equipment. And he was rewarded for his efforts: Some highly committed travel companions from the Vega subsidiary in Tianjin, along with well-informed, motivated audiences made the seminars a pleasure.
"I have visited many countries in the last year, I have seen some amazing places, met many wonderful people... and eaten some interesting food!" says Hengstler, summarizing his globe-trotting experiences. (I added some interest to a very bland/obvious statement for someone who has travelled the world!!) "In China, I was once again able to 'talk shop' and think about many exciting applications." He believes the seminars were such a success because many of the participants did a lot of work preparing for them.

Culinary diversity, technological clarity

After each seminar, Hengstler had the opportunity to enjoy authentic, traditional cuisine in the evening, together with both customers and employees. And he came away from these convivial events enriched by both his networking and culinary experiences. "There's nothing that doesn't at least taste interesting. You have to try everything once to really discover the best." After such an entertaining meal, working together to find the optimum level solution for customers is child's play. "After all, there's nothing that 80-GHz VEGA radar sensors wouldn't measure perfectly."
