Finding VEGA: Christmas Edition

1. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

Few scenes warm the heart like seeing a Christmas tree, lit up and gorgeous, on a dark winter’s evening. Christmas lights can drape any room in the spirit of Christmas and grow even the coldest, Grinch-est heart to three times the size. Keeping our Christmas trees (and our Christmas spirits) bright depends on a steady flow of electricity from power plants that count on VEGA products to keep their processes efficient and reliable.

That means amazing outdoor Christmas light displays aren’t possible without VEGA sensors, either. So the next time you and the family hop in the car and cruise the neighborhood to marvel at understated all-white lights or wild, blinking, self-indulgent masterpieces visible from three streets over, remember that VEGA is helping power your experience.

2. All the Gifts are Waiting

Every adult remembers being a kid and springing out of bed at the crack of dawn before anyone else was awake to rush to the Christmas tree and get a glimpse at the red and green boxes Santa left under the tree. This sneaking was inevitably followed by a silent scramble back to bed to feign sleeping until a more reasonable hour for rousing the house out of bed. Then came the sanctioned race to the tree, the joyous dash to see what the jolly old elf from the North Pole left for you that year. What a scene: Colorful wrapping paper ripping and flying all over the place until the floor is covered with scraps of Santa and snowflakes and reindeer.

It’s a wonderful and messy and magical morning and it would not be possible without VEGA sensors used in paper production. Our measurement instruments are installed in applications ranging from the storage of raw materials such as wood chips to large towers where pulp is bleached and pipes that pump starch (used to strengthen paper) into silos. The only thing our detectors won’t do is carry that mound of discarded paper to the trash can.

3. Dream by the Fire…Place

What is it about stone fireplaces that make them the ultimate backdrop for a holiday hangout with family, friends, and loved ones? Somehow all holiday activities are better near a stone hearth: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is funnier, hot cocoa tastes sweeter, and family games are more fun. The crackle of the fire and the rich aroma of burning logs get a lot of credit for the fireplace’s comforting effect on a holiday, but maybe the alchemy is in the stones. Fireplace stones have elegant lines, imperfect shapes, and unique textures. Each stone has a story and VEGA is part of the tale. Non-contact sensors such as the VEGAPULS 69 and VEGAMIP 61 ensure rock crushers operate without clogging so stones get to your fireplace and make your holiday better as efficiently as possible.

And now for something we dreamed up during a candy-cane fueled burst of sugary merriment.

A Very VEGA Christmas Tale

Every year hundreds of children get Naughty-Listed. These poor kiddos wake up bright-eyed and excited on Christmas morning only to discover a single, solitary lump of coal in their sad, red stockings. Ever wonder where all that coal comes from?

To meet his yearly demand, Santa Claus maintains a stockpile of coal at the North Pole on the outskirts of his workshop property, beyond the stables where Rudolph and the other reindeer rest until Christmas Eve. Santa can’t check his supply every day—the guy has a toy-building empire to oversee, after all—so he trusts his coal level measurement to the VEGAPULS 69, a through-air radar sensor that delivers accurate readings even if the air turns frigid or a cold winter wind coats the sensor in coal dust. The measurement is always good, for goodness sake.
