Growing tomorrow's golfers
VEGA raises funds
Young Alex Mpho, 13, was overwhelmed when he was told that VEGA Controls SA would be sponsoring some decent golfing equipment to help him with his game.
Alex stays with his mother, who lives and works at the Roodepoort Country Club in Ruimsig. On Mondays when the course is closed to the public, the caddies and Alex play a round of golf. Alex was spotted by VEGA MD John Groom, practising on the putting greens with an old putter and clubs. It was then that John Groom decided his company could help Alex and other young hopefuls, and organised a mini golf day with sponsored prices and a raffle. On August 12 they raised R22 000,00 which will be used to fund disadvantaged juniors and help kit them out with golfing clothes and equipment.
Alex, who attends Matla Primary School, said, "VEGA has helped me to live my dream of becoming a professional golfer one day. With my new clubs and gear, I will now work on improving my 13 handicap".
