MINITRAC: Density measurement using the radiometric principle

In radiometric density measurement, an isotope emits focussed gamma rays. The detector on the opposite side of the pipeline receives the radiation.
The scintillator of the detector converts the gamma radiation into signals, whose number is detected and evaluated. Because gamma rays are attenuated when penetrating matter, the detector can calculate the density or concentration on the basis of the change in intensity.

Radiometric measurement is based on the gamma rays, i.e. radiation, emitted by an isotope. The sensor, located on the opposite side of the vessel, receives this radiation. The detector of the sensor converts the gamma radiation into signals, the number of which is recorded and evaluated.

Mounting

The radioactive source is mounted on one side of the container and the detector on the opposite side. Density and concentration measurement in pipelines and vessels is possible. The greater the irradiated distance, the higher the accuracy of the measurement.

Connection

A three-core installation cable with PE conductor is required for power supply. The 4 ... 20 mA current output is connected with standard two-wire cable.

Setup

Due to the measuring principle itself, there is no linear relationship between the pulse rate and the level. For that reason, an adjustment must always be carried out.
