Around the World with 80 GHz – A week in Austria

No, unfortunately not for skiing or hiking ... but on tour with 80 GHz through seminar rooms. ;-)

A whole week ran under the motto "We love Radar" and thus 80 GHz. Filled with live demos and lots of practical examples, the presentations fascinated the participants. For a year now, I’ve been traveling all over the world with VEGAPULS 64. I’ve been on all continents and in many different countries. But I’ve never had problems with language like I had this week in Austria. I could hardly understand some of the participants. And that really says something. After all, I’m from the Black Forest. ;-)
Even after asking many a participant to repeat what they said, I often understood only that they were asking a question. With time I was able to catch enough words and pieces of sentences and then interpret the questions, and hopefully answer them. Fishing in Language. ;-)
The best part was that exactly the participant, whom I had the most trouble understanding, sat next to me at the dinner table in the evening. But in spite of that, or maybe because of that, we had lots of fun and interesting conversations. ;-)

And here in conclusion are a few samples of the Austrian language (which you might want to know if you’re going to Austria):

  • Dreachl (over there)
  • Fock (piglet)
  • Gfret (inconvenience)
  • Gstaudach (shrubbery)
  • Harpfm (bed)
  • Ibahaps (cross country)
  • letz (bad)
  • lumpan (to get drunk)
  • napfatzn (to sleep)
  • potschasne (cozy)
  • Reibn (moped)
  • an Schleim haben (to be mad at someone)
  • Togga (idiot)
  • Treapn (silly woman)
  • umaleckn (to cuddle)
