Upgrading wastewater sensors with VEGABAR 82 and VEGADIF 85

A wastewater plant in Eastern NY uses around thirty or more vessels and pits designed for wastewater treatment. This facility was evaluating potential system upgrades and needed to replace some older failing sensors. City residents need effective wastewater management for society to function properly and having reliable and accurate measurements is the only way to maintain normal processes. So, what happens if their sensors aren’t replaced?

Failing sensors and their consequences

In the wastewater industry, flow rates in pipelines are determined through regular pressure and differential pressure sensors. The plant’s existing devices initially worked but had deteriorated over time and began to experience measurement drift. If left unchecked, this could lead to unnecessary stress on the system and cause overflows, underflows, blockages, pipe bursts, or other equipment damage.

Plant operators faced another hurdle when dealing with the old sensors – they were complex, requiring specific technical knowledge to operate and understand. This limited the operation’s full potential, and with no technical support from the competitor, operators were left in the dark to figure things out on their own.

New sensors bring ease of use, visibility, and connectivity

With plant upgrades on the horizon, operators worked with VEGA’s sales team and an integrator to find the right solution to their aging sensor problems. Previously, both the integrator and the wastewater plant had leveraged VEGA’s radar sensors for their processes with remarkable success, so we recommended the VEGABAR 82, a sensor with a durable and reliable ceramic measuring cell immune to drift, and the VEGADIF 85 for differential pressure measurements.

Operators, no matter the experience level, can now easily connect to each new sensor via Bluetooth for setup, commissioning, and troubleshooting processes. If technical support is needed, VEGA’s support team is available 24/7 to help plant professionals whenever they need it most.

The VEGA Difference for wastewater flow pressure measurements

Upgrading this facility’s older failing sensors for line pressure and flow measurements was the right decision. Reliable and precise flow measurements mean increased compliance with environmental guidelines, more safety for the operators, better process visibility, and reduced operating costs associated with unplanned troubleshooting, recalibrations, and sensor replacements.

The right sensors can make all the difference for smooth wastewater processing operations. The VEGABAR 82 and VEGADIF 85 brought this plant the additional reliability, ease of use, and connectivity they needed, and will continue to do so well into the future.
